KIU teaching Hospital has urged patients within Bushenyi district and the surrounding areas to utilize its ambulance service in this time of the national lockdown necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on a talk show on Crane Radio in Ishaka Town on Monday, the head of Health Corporate Education and Insurance Services at the hospital, Dr Moses Ruhakana said patients should not put their lives at risk by failing to visit the hospital for medical services.

This was in response to a caller from Kizinda Town Council, who expressed concern at the lack of transport services due to the presidential ban on public and private transport, something that left many patients with no option but to self-medicate, buying drugs from pharmacies and drug shops.

“You should not risk your lives. Our full-time ambulance service is available, and you can call at any time so that our drivers can pick you from your places of residence and bring you to the hospital to access our high-quality health services,” Dr Ruhakana said.

Dr Ruhakana was appearing on the radio talk show alongside Sr Caroline Kamazima to sensitise the public about COVID-19, as well as the wide range of medical services KIU Teaching Hospital has on offer.

He told the listeners that all they had to do was to call the hospital contact numbers for the ambulance service, and they would be required to pay a very affordable fee for fuel so that they can use the service.
