The Parliamentary Committee on Education visits KIU

The parliamentary committee for higher learning paid a visit to the Kampala International University main campuson Thursday 10th November 2016. The visit was in a bid to find out more about the university, mainly how it operates, the challenges it faces in serving the community, staff welfare and students relations.

The committee chaired by the Woman MP of Mbale District Hon. Connie Nakayenze Galiwango had a casual interaction with the staff and student leaders. They were visibly impressed by their findings.KIU was applauded for being one of the best private universities and also for its commitment to providing quality education to students from all over the region.

Further, they were impressed by the fact that the university has been able to offer scholarships and bursaries to over a thousand students since 2014. This is vital consideringhow much it impacts national access to higher education. The students are particularly from remote areas of the country where the majority are low-income families.

Hon. Arinda Gordon Kankuuna, the MP for the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality praised the Ishaka Campus for its wide impact on the community. He said that the campus does not only provide medical services through its teaching hospitals but it has significantly boosted the economy of the community.

The Vice Chancellor shared with the committee that KIU’s ambition is to become one of the leading universities in East Africa. So far, the university has been able to expand to Kenya and Tanzania but there are prospects of moving to other neighboring countries as a reflection of the university’s motto. “Exploring the Heights” indeed.

The parliamentary committee made a commitment to interface with stakeholders for KIU’s Betterment. “Consider us officially KIUambassadors out there”said, Hon. Connie Nakayenze Galiwango.
