My Views on Becoming a Better Leader

What is Leadership?

As per the Oxford dictionary, leadership is described as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. In parallel, historical leaders like Warren Bennis define leadership as “the capacity to translate vision into reality.” My personal favorite is John Quincy Adams who said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

The Road to Leadership

My view is no different. However, I would add to this discussion my humble take on the process of becoming a leader. I believe the process starts from within. It starts with your thoughts and then it translates into your actions.

On a deeper level, one must master self-courage, self-esteem, and self-control. With these intrinsic values in check, one can naturally learn the interpersonal communication skills necessary to influence others.

Finding My Leadership Style

In the early 2000’s when I had just started my music career, I had a rough time leading even my own self. I sought answers from many people. I then learned that everyone has their own idea on leadership and not everyone leads in the same way. Through it all, I acquired new skills that eventually allowed me to become the leader I am today.

The most important lesson is that I should keep learning in every aspect. This way, I will be empowered to become a better leader for as long I live.

Leaders should be people who inspire other people to use their God-given abilities to live a happy and prosperous life. It’s not always easy to find your leadership style and improve on it, but at the end of the day, it’s all worth it. My ultimate goal is to be a better leader for my family, friends, community and country.
